Five Rivers Arts Alliance News
What’s in a name?
Plenty! And so we discovered in the process
of our strategic planning and community interviews during the past year. Rather
than continue being mistaken for a social services agency, hospital,
or the like, our Board of Directors chose to change the name of the organization,
yet again. This time it needed to state our area. This time
it needed to clearly state who we are and what we do. And so, Midcoast
REACH is now Five Rivers Arts Alliance. The organization’s
mission is still to connect regional arts, culture and heritage through
advocacy, education, promotion and celebration and it does so in an ever
expanding area of midcoast Maine now covering twelve communities: Brunswick,
Harpswell, Topsham, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Richmond, Bath, West Bath, Phippsburg,
Woolwich, Arrowsic, and Georgetown.

To define our growing region in an inclusive, fluid
way, we chose the five rivers – Kennebec, Androscoggin, Cathance,
New Meadows and Sheepscot – to name our area. We also chose flowing
rivers as our new logo to represent our goal of connecting arts, culture and
community. Adding “arts alliance” to the name clearly states
who we are and what we do.
As Five Rivers Arts Alliance, our area is fluidly
represented and our mission visually defined as flow, continuance, energy,
and flexibility. With this name and logo, we move toward an ever-expanding
future serving our constituents and community.
